The day has finally arrived! Day 1 at Royal Ascot. As we face our first Royal meeting without the anticipation of what colour the late Queen Elizabeth II’s hat will be, this year marks the dawn of a new era.
Will the newly crowned King Charles III have a winner on day 1 with Saga? Will we see a favourite frenzy to clean out the bookies? Or will outsiders spoil the party? Make sure you are tuned in to ITV Racing to watch the spectacle unfold and settle in to the first of five amazing days racing.
We’ve got Royal Ascot day 1 tips for you across all seven races today, and across all five days of the festival.

QUEEN ANNE STAKES – 14:30
GLOBETROTTING MODERN GAMES TO PICK UP sixth GROUP 1 SUCCESS
Royal Ascot day 1 starts on the straight course with a 1 mile group 1. The best milers around come together to try and claim the prize. MODERN GAMES won the Lockinge last time despite nearly having a chunk bitten out of him by Chindit, and is the first of our Royal Ascot day 1 tips. There were four other rivals that reopposed in behind too that day and he looks like a solid selection to win at 2/1 and start day one of Royal Ascot with a bang.

COVENTRY STAKES – 15:05
RIVER TIBER TO TICK OFF NUMBER 10 FOR BALLYDOYLE IN THE COVENTRY
Aiden O’Brien has won this race an impressive nine times in the past and saddles just the one runner in the shape of RIVER TIBER this year. A horse that looked sharp on debut, winning on heavy ground at Navan by 10 lengths. His second win was on better ground and he won going away under a penalty to make you think that the step up to six furlongs will not pose a problem.
With likely improvement to come and in the best hands possible, he is the win selection at 6/4 for this group 2 contest, and the second of our Royal Ascot tips for Tuesday.

KING’S STAND STAKES – 15:40

AUSSIE QUEEN COOLANGATTA COMES TO RAID THE KING’S STAND
This race has become a favourite for overseas raiders to take their chance and last year the Australians were successful with Nature Strip.
Our selection COOLANGATTA had that horse behind in fifth when winning her only start of the year in the group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes in February on home turf, since then this has been the target. If she has handled everything that comes with long distance travel and has settled well in the UK she can win and make it a great day 1 of Royal Ascot for Australia, making her our day 1 Royal Ascot tip at 7/2 for this race.

ST JAMES’ PALACE STAKES – 16:20
FRANKIE FEVER TO GET CHALDEAN OVER THE LINE
It wouldn’t be Royal Ascot without a Frankie Dettori flying dismount. This is his final year in the saddle and he partners the English 2000 Guineas winner in this year’s St James’s Palace stakes.
The only time CHALDEAN saw defeat was when the pair unseated from the gates in the Greenham earlier in the year before winning at Newmarket. CHALDEAN at 6/4 can make it three in a row for English 2000 Guineas winners after Coroebus last year and Poetic Flare in 2021.

ASCOT STAKES HANDICAP – 17:00
LAST ONE IN ZINC WHITE TO BE FIRST ONE HOME
It wouldn’t be our Royal Ascot day 1 tips without trying to find one to win a big handicap. The obvious trend is to stick with W P Mullins and Ryan Moore, however Bring On The Night looks to be short enough in the betting.
Another trainer who has won the race multiple times is Ian Williams, he saddles four this year and the one that looks to fit the bill is ZINC WHITE @ 11/1 each-way to finish in the top six places. An each-way price, drawn wide and carries bottom weight. This gelding is still unexposed and after a very good win in the Chester Plate last time out he can add a Royal Ascot success to his name.

WOLFERTON STAKES – 17:35

FRANCESCO CLEMENTE TO HELP PAINT THE TOWN RED FOR PUNTERS
A very tricky contest with a coming together of improving sorts and seasoned professionals. The King also has his first Royal Ascot runner with Saga and he could certainly run well.
However, it is FRANCESCO CLEMENTE at 4/1 each-way for the top four places, who lost his unbeaten record last time out when just outfought in a close finish by King of Conquest who could go close each-way in this. He gets a 3lb pull in the weights from that rival, will strip fitter for the run and has cheekpieces fitted for the first time to bring out some improvement, making him our Royal Ascot Tuesday tip for this race.
Wolferton Stakes

COPPER HORSE HANDICAP – 18:10
MULLINS THE MASTER TO GET VAUBAN HIS DAY IN THE SUN
Our Royal Ascot day 1 tips end with a relatively new race. There have only been three previous runnings of the Copper Horse Handicap and so it is one where trends are not really in play yet. The horse that stands out is VAUBAN at 6/5.
This classy French gelding won twice on the flat when trained across the channel including a Listed race. Since moving to the W P Mullins stable he has won three grade 1 hurdle races including the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2022. This season he has been stuck competing against State Man and possibly the best hurdler of all time Constitution Hill, none of the horses in this race are in that league and he can win this.
