Gillingham vs Doncaster
Doncaster have put together an incredible 10-game winning streak to propel themselves to 5th in the league. They’re just one more good result away from securing a playoff spot and a shot at promotion into League 1 next season.
They’re by far the most in form team in League 2 and have beat the likes of Wrexham on their mad climb up the table. They only need a point against Gilligham to secure their playoff place and in what will be a remarkable achievement.
Gillingham sit in 11th place, having lost 3 of their last 4 games and have very little to play for this weekend. A win against 10-men Barrow is their only victory from their last 4 home games, and their season looks to be ending with a whimper.
Doncaster won the reverse fixture 2-1. I’m going for win or draw here as a point is all Rovers need to qualify for the playoffs, but I really wouldn’t be surprised if they extend their 10 game winning run to 11 come Saturday afternoon.
Bradford City vs Newport County
Bradford’s fine finish to the season has seen them enter the final game still with an outside chance of making the playoffs. The Bantmans have won their last 4 league games and know that they must win on Saturday to have any hope of snatching 7th in the league and grabbing that final play off spot.
Newport County, however, are in dire form. They’ve lost 7 games in a row and are finishing the season as the side in the worst form in the league. They’re safe from relegation and have little to play for this weekend. I can’t see them causing an upset away to a highly motivated and in-form Bradford side.
Bradford won the reverse fixture 4-1 earlier this season at a time when Newport were in much better form than they are now. Bradford are the better side, have the home advantage, and still have something to play for. I expect them to get the job done this weekend.
