Nacional vs Porto
Starting off in Portugal as the giants of Porto visit Nacional in the quarter finals of the Taca De Portugal. Porto currently sit second in the league but they’ll be right up for taking a step towards some silverware as they travel to the Estadio De Madeira. They’re in sensational form right now, the visitors come in to this having won 14 of their last 15 games in all competitions which is frankly outrageous. The only blip in that spell was a 0-0 draw with Man City.
Across that run as well they’ve only failed to score 2 goals on 2 occasions. They’ve got some serious firepower in the ranks and regardless of some slight rotation this evening there’ll be plenty of talent on the pitch.
The likes of Otavio, Evanilson and Shoya Nakajima could feature. I’d expect a couple of the big guns such as Sergio Oliveira, Moussa Marega and Taremi Mehdi to play too. They won’t be taking this game lightly and a professional performance should be in the pipeline.
Granada vs Osasuna
Huge game here for both sides for vastly different reasons.Granada will be looking to recover following back to back losses, including a 4-0 drubbing by Barcelona. They currently occupy 7th place but have now slipped to 6 points behind Sevilla having played an extra game. With 3 sides just 1 point behind them too it’s imperative they get back to winning ways sooner rather than later if they want to get European football.
Just 3 of Granada’s 17 games have seen under 1.5 goals this season and they’ve got the joint 3rd highest average goals per game in the league (2.8). At home that number is even higher (3) and 8/9 of their matches at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes have produced 2+ goals. They’re a very very strong home side, that defeat to Barca was just their second of the season and the hosts have buried 14 goals in 9 games on home soil.
It’s also a huge game for the visitors, they’ve steadied the ship with 4 straight draws including 2 impressive points against Real Madrid and Sociedad, they’ll fancy going for all 3 in this encounter. That 0-0 with Madrid was the 1st time in 11 matches that Osasuna saw a match finish with under 2 match goals. They’ve conceded 25 times in 17 games this season and against such solid home scorers I can’t see them keeping a clean sheet.
However they do have ability in attack, they had chances against Madrid and on another day that could’ve been 3 points.Ruben Garcia and Roberto Torres are worth keeping an eye on for the visitors, if Granada can’t get a hold of those two then Osasuna have got a real chance here. I think 2 goals shouldn’t be an issue for us.
Harrogate vs Carlisle
Top of the league Carlisle gave an incredibly tough period now as they look to sustain their push for League One football. After this meeting with Harrogate they play 6 games in a row against sides currently in the top 10. It could well make or break their season so it’s imperative they head in to that after claiming a positive result here.
The Cumbrians have lost just one of their last 7 and have ran out as winners in 5 of those. Only a crazy Bolton comeback (3-3) and a defeat to fellow promotion chasers Forest Green have let them down. They’ll also be boosted by the return of inspirational Frenchman Gime Toure, after a long injury lay-off summer signing Brennan Dickenson is also back fit as are George Tanner and Nick Anderton who’ve been staples in the side this season
.Harrogate have managed just 1 win on home soil so far in League Two and have lost their last 3 games here, which included shipping 5 to a very poor Scunthorpe side.
It’s been an up and down season at times for newly promoted Harrogate but I think Carlisle will show their quality here. This game was recently abandoned due to the weather after Carlisle trailed in the first minute, let’s hope they start a bit quicker this time.
Leverkusen vs Frankfurt
Ah, my boys Leverkusen. They’ve maybe tailed off a bit lately after a scintillating start but their games are always a great place to look for goals and this should be a highly competitive affair with a very talented Frankfurt side. With both sides being honest, their best chance of silverware comes in the cup.
So this DFB Pokal clash is important for both camps. Leverkusen simply don’t have enough in the tank to take the title in my opinion and Frankfurt will be more suited to European football aspirations but both will be up for putting together a good cup run.
Sources in Germany have the sides down as pretty much full strength, that means the likes of Leon Bailey, Lucas Alario and Andre Silva should all play. Silva bagged a brace last time out and was superb as Frankfurt won their 3rd game in a row.
These sides average 3 and 3.2 goals per game respectively with both teams scoring in a whopping 80% of Frankfurt’s games, they’ve also only failed to score once. Expect them to really take the game to the hosts. This should be a real ding dong affair, I might even try and tune in to it as I’m expecting a goal fest.
Wolves vs Everton
Really fancied this one for a both teams to score selection but with really good odds available on over 1.5 I’ve decided to play it safe. Both sides average comfortably above that number over the course of the season, 2.5 for Wolves and 2.9 for Everton.
The 3-3 draw with Fulham was an example of how Wolves games have the potential to go, they’re expansive and attacking but often leave gaps in defence. I think Nuno will send his players out tonight in real belief of a win, especially given that Everton have somewhat tailed off after their blistering start.
Regardless of that fact, Ancelotti has a phenomenal squad at his disposal. DCL will miss out with a hamstring problem but with Richarlison, James Rodriguez and Gylfi Sigurdssom available the Toffees have more than enough firepower to take all 3 points here which would put them back in to top 4, albeit briefly.
Everton are also missing Alan, quite a big loss in my opinion. He’s been superb since signing from Napoli and really helps to shield what can be a questionable defence at times, Wolves have got more than enough to exploit that frailty.
Research is great and it’s a huge part of my bets and why I have so many followers, however it doesn’t guarantee wins so please stake sensibly and never gamble more than you can afford to lose.
