I don’t need to say this, but I will: Man City score a lot of goals.

They found the net 94 times last season, more than any other team in the league. That averages out to 2.47 goals per game.

And they failed to score in just three games, one of which was against Brentford on the final day when their focus had moved on to the UCL final.

So it’s not surprising then that every single one of their games last season finished with at least one goal being scored by either team (normally City).

And I fancy their chances of repeating the feat this season.

You have to go back to March 2022 for their last Premier League fixture that finished 0-0.

And think about it for a second. Is there a single Premier League team that you can confidently say City won’t score against this season?

Sure, City will lose games this season. And yeah, they will fail to score in others. But I can’t see an individual fixture where both will happen.

Tottenham scored 70 goals last season with only four teams managing more.

But it was their defence that sunk them and meant they finished eighth in the table.

They conceded 63 times across the season, which is on par with some of the worst teams in the Premier League.

For comparison, Everton survived by the skin of their teeth but conceded six fewer goals.

It’s easy to see why games involving Spurs averaged 3.50 goals per game, more than any other team in the league.

And to be honest, with the appointment of Ange Postecoglou, I expect this stat to be exceeded this season.

At previous clubs, Ange adopts an aggressive football style that leaves his teams open on the counter. Even against the best clubs, I don’t expect Spurs to sit back and play for a draw.

There was at least one score in every single Spurs game last season. In fact, there have only been three 0-0 games involving Tottenham since September 2020. And I don’t expect any more nil-nil games this season.

Liverpool matches last season averaged 3.21 goals and 89% of them saw 1 or more goals scored.

Yep, that’s below what we’d need, however I think Liverpool are worth a shot in this market this season.

Compared to last season, they’ve further bolstered their forward options with the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Midfield creativity was a huge issue last season, especially without Thiago. They’ve addressed that with 2 players who totalled 26 goals contributions last season.

Last season, Liverpools midfielders totalled 14 goal contributions between 6 of them.

They also have Luis Diaz back fit, who started last season in electric fashion before his injury.

However, what makes this bet even better is the fact that Liverpool still haven’t addressed their defensive issues.

Their one true defensive minded midfielder, Fabinho, has left. Jordan Henderson as also exited the club.

They are of course linked with Lavia, but he’s still very young and raw.
I agree you can’t read too much in to pre season, but Liverpool have looked poor at the back.

German 2nd tier sides Karlsruhe, Darmstadt and Furth all scored against them, with the latter scoring 4. A feat that Bayern also managed.
