Football icon Kylian Mbappe to have 1+ shots on target in each group stage match
Arrow down

Mbappe is flying for PSG this season, scoring 12 goals in 14 league games. He’s netted 7 in his last 6 across all comps.

He’s also netted 7 in 6 Champions League games.

He scored 5 times in WC qualifying and averaged 2.13 shots on target per game from 3.69 shots.

For PSG, he’s averaging 2.32 shots on target from 4.47 shots.

France are in a group with Denmark, Australia and Tunisia. Aside from the Danes, Les Bleus should have 2 comfortable victories and Mbappe could easily rack up some numbers in the groups.

Denmark did beat beat France twice in the nations league, but interestingly, even in the 2-0 defeat; Mbappe had 4 shots on target.

Football icon Harry Kane to have 1+ shots on target in each group stage match
Arrow down

Kane collected the Golden Boot at Euro 2020 as England made the final. Many think we may struggle in Qatar.

I can’t see anything but comfortable qualification from a very weak group. The knockouts pose a tougher test, but we were written off against Germany last year and look how that turned out.

Tottenham’s indifferent form has taken the shine away from another stellar Harry Kane season so far.

He’s scored 12 times in the league, 8 more than Spurs’ next top scorer.
He’s averaging 1.62 shots on target from 3.51 shots.

He had a barnstorming World Cup qualifying run, netting 12 times in just 8 games for England.

Across those games he averages 2.81 shots on target from 5.08 shots.

Of course, he’s also England’s designated penalty taker; a bigger advantage in this side than most, given that England have had 4 across the last 2 international tournaments. They also had 5 in WC Qualifying & 2 in the Nations League.

I can see Kane being very active in the groups, no disrespect to the teams we face but the standard is poor.

Football icon Darwin Nunez to have 1+ shots on target in each group stage match
Arrow down

This will be the selection that ruffles the most feathers but approach this with an open mind.

Firstly, I think the impact of Haaland has set the bar so high that Nunez has been unfairly criticised.

Yes, he’s raw and needs some fine tuning. But he’s performed very well for Liverpool. The stats tell a different story to what some on social media would have you believing.
Nunez has scored 8 times in 15 PL/CL games this season. That’s from 9 starts. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Also, his shots stats are absolutely bonkers. Some of the best around in fact.
He averages a 2.38 shots on target and 5.81 shots, they’re remarkable numbers.

Nunez has played less than half the minutes that Mo Salah has this season and he’s only had 4 fewer shots on target.

Part of this is down to how raw he is. His decision making often leads him to taking on shots when he should be looking to pass.

Not only is he very direct and always looking to get a shot off, he’s a big threat in the air and in a physical Uruguay side they’ll be sure to utilise that weapon.
Uruguay are a lot of peoples dark horses, they’ve got a brilliant squad and finished qualifying in great form.

Portugal are the big side in their group, but Ghana and South Korea pose very winnable games, ones in which you’d expect the inaugural World Cup winners to dominate.

It’s a huge stage for Darwin to prove himself, he’ll be right up for it and comes in to his opening game off the back of a brace against Southampton.

Football icon Kevin De Bruyne to have 1+ shots on target in each group stage match
Arrow down

Man City’s midfield magician is the final player we need to deliver on this bet. The Belgian has had another stellar season so far for his club and will be looking to transfer that on to the biggest stage of them all.

KDB averaged 0.95 shots on target per 90 for City this season, although it must be said his numbers have taken a hit with the impact of Harland with KDB relied upon to assist more than score now.

He averaged 1.02 shots on target per 90 in the WC Qualifiers for The Red Devils; who don’t face a particularly tough group.

Croatia are their biggest test, aside from that they face Canada and Morocco.
De Bruyne will be first in line for free kicks for his national team, as he is at club level.

Belgium play very fast, free flowing football that commits a lot of players up the pitch. Their strength is in scoring goals, rather than keeping them out and I’d expect them to spend the vast majority of their group games on the front foot.
