PSG v Dortmund

What more can I say?

The French captain is tearing up Ligue One at the moment with seven goals in just four league appearances. And he only played 40 minutes in one of those games!

He topped Ligue 1 G/A last season with an impressive 34 goals and assists in 38 matches and it looks like he’s going to do it again this time around as well.

He bagged seven goals in eight games in the Champions League last season which puts him as the joint third highest goalscorer in last year’s competition. Not bad when you consider that PSG got knocked out in the RO16.

PSG have built their team around Mbappe and it’s hard to imagine a Les Parisians netting a goal that doesn’t involve him.

Emre Can is on a bit of a mad one at the moment.

He’s picked up seven fouls and three yellows in just four league games, putting him near the top of the Bundesliga tables for all the wrong reasons.

He’s averaging 1.94 fouls per game at the moment, but take that with a pinch of salt because Dortmund has faced some fairly mundane Germany teams thus far.

Against PSG, it’s a whole different story. The front three of PSG, Mbappe, Dembele, and Ramos have been fouled 1.76, 2.76, and 1.03 times per 90 so far this season.

And given the context and opponents here, I can easily see Emre Can picking up at least two fouls

Lazio v Athletico Madrid

Football icon Antoinne Griezmann To Score Or Assist
Arrow down

The Frenchman may be flying under the radar for El Rojiblancos, with just 0.05 xG per 90 this year, you can understand why. Antoine takes aim 1.62 times per game and with a player of his quality, he will find the back of the net given enough chances.

Assist record is stronger, despite no assists yet, Griezmann creates a lot from that “off the striker” role and comes into this game with an xA of 0.41. Combining this with his 0.05 xG, Griezmann is good for a goal or assist every other game.

Lazio have not been very good at the back, no clean sheets through four games and giving up 1.75 goals per game (in line with xGA of 1.76). The most concerning fact from a Lazio perspective is that four of their seven goals conceded have come from the edge, or just outside, of the box – i.e. Griezmann territory. If Lazio don’t get their act together soon, Antione will have plenty of chances to make his mark on the scoreboard.

Football icon Daichi Kamada To Commit 2 or More Fouls
Arrow down

Daichi Kamada averaged 1.59 fouls per 90 when playing for Eintracht Frankfurt last season which is some going across an entire season.

He’s now four games in with his new club Lazio, but has picked up an incredible 10 fouls in that time.

That averages to 2.5 fouls per game and I reckon he could easily pick up another couple against Atletico Madrid. Playing on the right, he will be up against the three most fouled players in the Atletico Madrid squad.

Hermosa, Barrios, and Niguez are fouled 1.89, 1.82, and 2.78 times per 90 on average.

This will be a close game between two quality sides, there will be fouls here and Kamada should get a couple of them

Feyenoord v Celtic

Football icon Calvin Stengs To Score Or Assist

Feyenoord have scored an incredible 19 goals in just five games in the Eredivisie. That averages to 3.80 goals per game.

They’re by far the highest goalscorers in the league and they can thank their in-form playmaker Calvin Stengs for a good chunk of them. He’s averaging 1.14 goals or assists per game so far this season.

With the fact that teammate, and the league’s highest goal scorer, Santiago Giménez, is out suspended, it should open up chances for the Steng’s to ease past a Celtic side who in recent years have performed well below par in Europe.

Celtic conceded 15 goals in six games in the Champions League last season and there’s a good chance that if Feyenoord finds the net then Calvin Stengs will be involved

Football icon Matt O'Reilly To Commit 2 or More Fouls
Arrow down

Matt O’Reily committed 42 fouls last season, more than any other Celtic player and averages out to 1.51 fouls per 90.

However, when stepping up to tougher opponents he regularly exceeds the 2+ fouls mark and picked up 3 fouls against RB Leipzig and Real Madrid in last year’s competition.

On Tuesday night, O’Reily will find himself up against two of Feyenoords best players in Quinten Timber and Igor Paixão who are fouled on 2.22 and 1.71 times per 90 on average.

With Atletico Madrid and Lazio being the other two teams in Group E, Celtic and Feyenoord both this will be a rare chance to pick up three points.

I expect this game to get scrappy and Matt O’Reily should pick up a couple of fouls along the way.
