Southampton vs Ipswich Town

Southampton need to urgently sort out their defense if they hope to get promoted to the Premiership anytime soon.

They’ve conceded 16 goals in six games and have yet to keep a clean sheet.

Yet with the likes of Adam Armstrong and Che Adams in the team, it’s inevitable that they’re going to find goals as well.

They’ve scored 11 times in those six games and have found the net at least once in every game bar one.

They face an Ipswich side currently third in the league on Tuesday night.

And with the way Nathan Broadhead and Conor Chaplin are linking up and finding goals, it’s easy to forget that this is a newly promoted team.

Yet they’ve also had their issues in defence and let’s not forget their 3-4 defeat to Leeds just three weeks ago.

This is the standout fixture in the Championship tonight and I’m expecting to see plenty of goals.

Altrincham vs Hartlepool

It’s their defense that’s letting both these teams down at the moment and makes this a solid pick for both teams to score.

Hartlepool has conceded 19 goals in nine league games this season which is on par with some of the worst teams in the league.

Thankfully, their forwards are managing to salvage their season.

They’ve also netted 19 goals in those nine games with Emmanuel Dieseruvwe having bagged six of them to date making him the joint-third-highest goalscorer in the league.

It’s not surprising then that eight of their nine league games have finished with both teams scoring.

Unlike Hartlepool, Altrincham doesn’t have a clear out-and-out goalscorer but they’ve still managed to pick up 13 goals in their nine games.

And although they haven’t scored in their last two games against Wealdstone and Barnet this shouldn’t put you off.

Hartlepool’s defence is awful and Altrincham should find a way through at some point.

And this disregards the fact that before those two games, they had scored in every league fixture this season.

In fact, every game prior to those two fixtures had finished with both teams scoring.

And after a short break, I expect that trend to continue when they face Hartlepool on Tuesday night.

Especially when you consider that Hartlepool have not kept a single clean sheet all season and Altrincham haven’t kept one at home.

Solihull Moors vs Fylde

Here’s how many goals Fylde has conceded in each of their nine league games this season: 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 1, 4, 2.

Need I say more?

Fylde’s defence is by far the worst in the league with 23 goals conceded to date.

They haven’t kept a single clean sheet all season, sit 23rd in the league, and look destined for the drop even at this stage of the season.

They’re going to have a tough night away to Solihull Moors who sit second and are the only team in the league yet to lose a game.

Solihull average 1.78 goals per game, but have found themselves up against some of the best defensive teams in the league, including Halifax, Woking, and Kidderminster.

So those stats are likely to be slightly off and against Fylde I can see them exceeding that average.

It would be easy to write Fylde off completely here, but somehow they’ve actually scored a respectable 14 times this season and have only failed to find the net once all season.

So I wouldn’t put it past them to get a consolation goal here.
