Mainz vs Leverkusen

Mainz have really fallen from grace this season. I mean sure, they’ve never been a formidable German side, but they normally manage a solid mid-table finish most seasons.

However, this may be the year they get relegated. Yeah we’re only five games into the new season but they’ve only scored 4 goals in that time, the joint lowest in the league.

So why am I backing over 2.5 here? Because I’m expecting Bayer Leverkusen to rip them to shreds.

Leverkusen have scored 17 goals in five games which averages to 3.40 goals per match. Only Bayern Munich manage more.

Mainz, on the other hand, have conceded 14 goals, 2.80 per game. A record only beaten by bottom of the table Darmstadt and Bochum who were torn apart by 7-0 by Bayern on the weekend.

Mainz are at a crisis point whereas Leverkusen know that they could seriously challenge for the title if they can keep the momentum going. I’m expecting a one sided affair with Leverkusen picking up 3 or more goals.

Clermont vs PSG

Here’s a similar situation to the German game above.

Clermont sit rock bottom of the table with a single point from six league games.

They concede more goals than any other team in the league – 12 so far, which averages to 2.0 goals per game.

But with the exception of Reims and Monaco a lot of their opponents have come from the bottom half of the table.

PSG are the second highest scorers in the league, averaging 2.50 goals per game when playing away from home.

Their last four games have finished with over four goals each, well surpassing what we need here.

And head-to-head, Clermont and PSG have played each other four times and those games have averaged 5.25 goals!

Like Leverkusen above, PSG should breeze past Clermont here and pick up all three goals single-handedly.

Girona vs Real Madrid

What on earth is happening in Girona?!

They sit top of the table after seven games and are a point ahead of Real Madrid in second place.

They’re flying at the moment and will be looking forward to welcoming Real Madrid to the Estadi Montilivi on Saturday.

They’ve scored 18 goals this season, the joint-highest in the league.

That averages to 2.57 goals per game and 3.0 goals when playing at home.

Real Madrid head into this one after breezing past Las Palmas in midweek.

They have scored 13 goals this season, 1.86 goals on average.

Girona are doing fantastic at the moment, but reality is that they will probably drop off at some point, hence why I’m backing over 1.5 goals in this game and not both teams to score.
