Harry Kane was the winner of the Premier League’s golden boot last season but Mo Salah did push him very close in the end. Those two are the top two favourites to finish as the league’s top scorer this season and it’s hard to argue with that. I’m going to give you my thoughts on the bookies favourite’s and who could be a decent shout as a big odds outsider.

Harry Kane Premier League Top Goalscorer Odds: 4/1
Again, Harry Kane was the winner of the latest Premier League golden boot and he’s not won the award three times in his career. It’s not yet clear where he’ll be playing his football this season, but wherever it is, he’ll be scoring goals as always. Kane hasn’t met with Spur’s new manager Nuno Espirito Santo yet but apparently Nuno was told Kane wouldn’t be sold this summer as part of persuading him to join.
I’ve read rumours that Tottenham are lining up Danny Ings as a new signing to play alongside Kane this season and that would be great to watch I won’t lie. Kane is both a goalscorer and a provide, so I think those two playing together would combine for a ridiculous amount of goals.
Mo Salah Premier League Top Goalscorer Odds: 11/2
Mohamed Salah is always in with a shout of winning the golden boot, let’s be honest. He’s Liverpool’s main man and he scores all kinds of goals, whether it be a penalty of a worldie from outside of the box. Salah finished top of the goalscoring charts twice before and he’s definitely capable of doing it again, I’d be quite happy to back him for sure. It wasn’t the best campaign for either him or Liverpool last season to say the least, but he still managed to bag a total of 22 league goals which left him just one behind the eventual golden boot winner Harry Kane.
Liverpool scored 17 fewer goals last season than they did in their league winning season the year before, so there’s plenty of room for them and Salah to improve and increase those numbers and get back to the level they were before.
Raheem Sterling Premier League Top Goalscorer Odds: 10/1
Raheem Sterling is a bit of a weird one, he’s definitely capable of scoring a high number of goals but he seems very inconsistent to me and can be hit and miss. Man City were Premier League champions last season and they scored more goals than any other side, with that in mind, Sterling only contributed 10 of them and he was outscored by Ilkay Gundogan. The season before though, he scored a total of 20 which is an amount which can certainly put you in the picture for the golden boot.
Diogo Jota Premier League Top Goalscorer: 14/1
Diogo Jota is among the top 4 favourites and I can’t say that I’m particularly keen on that. He tends to have many chances in games but is he guaranteed to play each and every game? I’m not so sure. He was a valuable player for Liverpool last season, I’m not disputing that. However he only managed 19 Premier League appearances (7 from the bench) and he scored just 9 times.
He’s not the worst bet and I wouldn’t say 14/1 is a bad price at first glance. There’s just several out and out goalscorers in the league who should rank above him in my opinion. Even someone like Jamie Vardy who’s a seasoned striker will score far more goals than Diogo Jota in my opinion.
Bruno Fernandes Premier League Top Goalscorer Odds: 25/1
Bruno Fernandes was a huge influence for Man United last season and was a big factor behind them finishing as runners up in the Premier League. He scored 18 goals which is very impressive given his position on the pitch, and only Kane and Salah finished ahead of him in the goalscoring charts.
Fernandes scored half of last season’s league goals from the penalty spot so those opportunities will give him a great opportunity to finish as Man United’s top scorer and keep him up there with the Premier League’s best. I can’t see Bruno ever outscoring Kane and co myself but he might be an option to consider each-way considering he wasn’t a million miles away last time out.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin Premier League Top Goalscorer Odds: 33/1
Calvert-Lewin surprised a lot of people last season as he matured into a dangerous striker and scored 16 Premier League goals. He scored 9 goals across Everton’s first 7 matches last season and had an unbelievable start to the 2020/21 campaign. The only downside was he slowed down and his form diminished towards the back end of the season, he scored just 3 goals in his last 13 appearances.
If he didn’t drop off at the end of the season he definitely could have ran Kane and Salah close. I think Calvert-Lewin is capable of reaching the 20 league goals mark if he can stay fit throughout, so he might be worth a small each-way bet.
Patson Daka Premier League Top Goalscorer Odds: 100/1
This is a seriously bold pick and a high odds selection that’s probably worth a few quid and nothing more. A lot of Premier League fans won’t be familiar with Patson Daka, but believe me, they will be soon as I expect him to explode onto the scene.
Daka is a Zambian international, he’s just 22-years-old, and he’s going to be the latest star to be developed by and come out of the famous Red Bull football conveyor belt. He scored 27 goals in 28 league appearances for Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga last season.
