Germany got off to a flying start with a 5-1 thumping of Scotland and I expect them to continue here. Their form this calendar year has been great, going unbeaten and winning 4 of their 5 games.

Hungary lost their opener against Switzerland, making it 2 defeats in their last 3. Their form prior to that had been encouraging, but they’ll be coming up against the host nation, and one in form at that. I can’t see them leaving with anything here.

Over 2.5 goals has landed in 3 of Germany’s last 4, and in 7 of their last 10. It has a 83% success rate when playing at home in that period, as they will be against Hungary.

For Hungary, over 2.5 has landed in their last 3 games, and in 7 of their last 10. It has landed in 100% of away games during that period, and with Germany being the host nation I’m counting this as an away game.

I fear for Scotland in this tournament. They were poor against Germany, although admittedly the Germans were very well organised, but they folded easily and never looked at the races at all.

Switzerland weren’t hugely convincing in beating Hungary but they got the job done and look like they’ll be difficult to beat. They’ve won 3 of their last 4 and lost only 1 of their last 10 games. Scotland, on the other hand, have won only 1 of their last 10.

I do think Scotland will put up a more resolute display this time around, and there is quality in their midfield, but I think Switzerland are a better side and that should tell eventually. I think Switzerland will win, but I’ve gone either half just to be safe.

Croatia were poor against Spain but I still think they’ll have too much for Albania here. Prior to that game against the Spanish, Croatia had won 5 and drawn 1 of their last 6, including a 2-1 win against the highly fancied Portugal, though admittedly it was a friendly.

Albania got a good start against Italy but the gulf in class between the two sides was obvious. Italy took their foot off the gas once they led, and with a bit more purpose and conviction they could have had a couple more.

Croatia need to win to keep their hopes of qualifying alive, and I think they’ll find a way here.
